OUR APPROACH

With over 15 years of experience photographing the built environment, our approach is rooted in collaboration and clarity. We work closely with the creative teams at architecture and construction firms to understand not just what was built, but why it was built. Every project begins with listening—learning the design intent, the constraints, and the story each team wants their work to tell.

FEATURED HIGHER EDUCATION - SWARTHMORE COLLEGE

Swarthmore College for DLR Group

One of our favorite projects of 2024 and one of our favorites of my career was the renovation/addition of the dining hall and commons at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. This was a spectacular project by DLR Group. We were able to travel to the college in May of 2024 and spend a few days photographing a number of interiors and exteriors. The renovations at the site included a 40,000 sq/ft dining addition and a transformation of the existing Sharples Community Commons. DLR utilized Mass Timber, CLT and other materials to create a stunning new icon to an already spectacular college campus.

Our Process

With so many photoshoots under our belt and servicing a wide range of clientele in the AEC Industry we have refined how we approach photographing spaces. It all starts with clear communication. Once we have an understanding of your project photography needs we begin pre-production. We scout every project to get a feel for the natural light, space design, logistics and work to develop a shot list and production plan.

Working Together

One of the first questions we like to ask our client is, what is the end goal/use of the images? Will the images be used to showcase in your firm's portfolio, a proposal, social media, or all of the above? Having this information helps us determine the correct licensing and usage as well as gives us an idea on how we should be photographing the space. Having these important conversations helps drive the photography of your project. Photography for publication in a magazine versus an award submission or proposal can mean different things and we want to make sure that we are capturing the interiors, exteriors and details that you need. You may have an initial idea of a proposal layout that you want to fill in with interior and exterior design images or you may know that you need a certain number of strong, vertical interior shots. Whatever it is, we want to provide the best interior and exterior angles and knowing your end goal helps with that. There are a lot of different uses for architectural photography and we are always excited to learn about your project and the end goal of the images.

FEATURED K-12 - ROOSEVELT MIDDLE AND HIGHSCHOOL

We love photographing new schools. I think it is because the schools we grew up in were so different and the technology and designs that go into new schools these days are fantastic. Working with TreanorHL and AP to coordinate and photograph the new Roosevelt High School was great. We ended up photographing over the course of three days. It is a large school and being there for an extended time allowed us to capture the spaces being used and capture different light for the interiors and exteriors.

Staying in Budget

There are very few instances when a project is completed with only one firm involved. It is such a collaborative process that involves many companies over a long period of time to get to the end result. Architects, interior design firms, general contractors, engineers, property owners and representatives, furniture companies, the list goes on and on. With cost-sharing, we make it so that the firms that want to license images can be part of the photography process, adding input into what areas they would like to have highlighted or details that are important to their firm. With cost share, everyone shares the cost of the photography project, which ultimately maximized the marketing budgets for everyone. Our clients include architecture firms, interior designers, engineering companies, building owners and owner representatives, hospitality firms, marketing firms, landscape architects, and many others. We will work with everyone involved on the project to make sure their needs are met. Whether they want specific images of the exterior or detailed images of a mechanical room in the building, we will make sure everyone has a say in the photography. It is a great way to get multiple parties involved while keeping the individual cost lower for each party. The more parties involved the lower the cost is per party.
